RED CRAB Alimango House

104 JSB Building, Tomas Morato Ave., cor Sct. Delgado
Quezon City, Metro Manila

From the Timog-Tomas Morato Rotunda going into the direction of E. Rodriguez Avenue, after you pass a Starbucks Coffee Shop (adjacent to 168 Internet Cafe) to your left, the next corner should be Delgado Street. Just look to your right and the said restaurant should be at the corner.

HALAAN IN GINGER WANSUY BROTH

For those who probably like the overwhelming taste of ginger, then this soup will make your day. Unfortunately, I'm not exactly a ginger fan. I was actually looking forward to the aromatic flavor of the wansuy which I never got.

Kinda strange that a soup with clams as one of its principal profile and yet the broth tasted like they used chicken stock.

BABY SQUID SISIG

I think the picture I posted says a thousand words ...... way too much liver and too little quantities of baby squids.

And mom said it was too salty. (I second the motion)

STEAMED SALMON WITH KIMCHI RICE

The menu said steamed salmon, but it came out grilled (not that I really mind) but the fish was totally underseasoned. The kimchi rice didn't taste like kimchi nor did it have the spiciness that normally accompanies kimchi. Fact is, it pretty much tasted like plain rice to me.

CRAB SOTANGHON

In fairness to the crabs, they were really big, fat and full of meat. I think the crabmeat on its own tasted fantastic. The Sontanghon (glass noodles) however were too watery and too salty. Perhaps next time I should try the Chili Crabs.

------------------------------------------

overall damage came to around 2,500 pesos for 3 people with the crab dish having the highest price tag.

My dad's comment was that next time, we should just buy some crabs in the wet market and just have it steamed at home.

  1. Clam soup looked oily.

Baby Squid Sisig sounds interesting, too bad it had a lot of liver (eeeks, something I don't like).

Steamed Salmon was underseasoned you say? Maybe because they knew the other dishes were salty (hahahaha). If I ordered that and they served it "grilled," I would really complain. The reason why you ordered "steamed" was because it was steamed, not grilled.

Crab Sotanghon in my opinion didn't look appetizing. The dish looked as if the crab got tangled in a web of seaweeds.

I guess I will echo your dad's suggestion... just buy fresh crabs and cook it at home.

  2. @ jenn ......for baby squids, there is a dish being served at Romulo Cafe thats good. (with rice or as pulutan)and yeah like you I'm not a fan of liver.

For the salmon, probably a little salt and pepper would have done wonders.

For crabs ... just steam, then add a little garlic laced vinegar and Im quite happy with that.
