YING YING TEAHOUSE

(March, 2010) Our original plan was just a simple food trip ....... which in the end turned out to be "Pulutan" (beermate) Night.

TSING TAO BEER

We're in Chinatown right ???? So might as well get a taste of one of the more popular Chinese Beer. (actually, we're the only diners drinking beer that night. hahahaha)

A bit lighter in taste (and alcohol content) than our local San Miguel Beers which I think would account for the numerous bottles we consumed that night. (around 4 liters for 4 people is still no laughing matter.)

STEAMED CRABS IN GARLIC

Nice garlicky flavor. Too bad the Crabs were a bit oversteamed and a bit watery.

PRAWN SALAD

Not exactly my idea of a great beermate because of the sweetness of the Mayo sauce. (It was our lady companion's idea to order this) But I still its a nice dish ......the prawns were big, the batter just lightly covered the prawns and the sweetness of the mayo sauce was not overpowering.

SIZZLING OYSTER (In Black Bean Sauce)

I have actually eaten here many times before. (as well as at their very original branch which is President Restaurant), but this was my first time try this dish. They were a little heavy handed on the black beans which made it a tad too salty. A little more chili peppers would have made the dish really fantastic. But overall, I still think its a nice Beermate dish. (Would also go well with a bowl of plain rice)

STEAMED EEL (In Black Bean Sauce)

Call me bias, but I will bravely say that you haven't tasted the flavors of YING YING until you tasted their eel dish ....... this has been, through the years my most favorite chinese inspired dish. And so far, I don't think any other chinese inspired resto has been able to match the delicious taste of this dish (disclaimer: Ying Ying, did not pay me to write this paragraph. hahahaha)

FRIED FROGLEGS

Just like what your mom would use to say ....... fried froglegs really taste like chicken. I like Ying Ying's version because they don't have that "chinese herb" aftertaste.

  3. @ steven ...... actually, from what I know, YING YING and President Restaurant are of the same owners. So I guess the recipe is just the same.

@ Jenn ..... I tried their adobo version of the frogs. And I'm sticking to the Fried version.
