March, 2010
I have heard and read a lot about this fine burger joint and it was only recently g that I finally was able to try out the place. (many thanks to the Smiling Bandit and Friend for accompanying me) For awhile, I thought that the eatery would be difficult to find. Turns out, it not so bad.......
From Edsa, take shaw boulevard going in the direction of pasig city. Your first landmark is a Tropical Hut joint to your right. (this means you're close to the 2nd landmark) The Second Landmark is a Petron Gas Station ..... make a right turn then head straight until you reach an intersection. Turn left and move on a little further. You should see CHARLIE's signage to your right. (Sorry I forgot to take a picture of the signage of the establishment)

Like most burger joints .... its basically order and pay-up at the counter. Then wait a couple of minutes before the server delivers the food to your table.
While waiting for our orders (and for the smiling bandit's friend to arrive) we started with a little booze to whet the appetite. One bottle each of Mexican Corona beer was our choice (actually i just let him choose which beer he likes)

Pretty much tasted like the usual SML except that with the added lemon slice, it gives that subtle tartness into our booze.
Our first food order arrives ...... It's a Double Black Angus Burger (with potato fries on the side).

Think two patties-thick worth of freshly ground angus beef !!!! Then add some tomatoes, lettuce and onions and you got one helluva meal here. I ate half of the burger and it almost made me full ...... Its beefy; Its greasy; and Its sloppy. EVERYTHING I WANT IN A BURGER.
The fries are not bad themselves ...... thickly sliced and with the skin still included. And its nice that they use Heinz as the catsup.
Next on our order is a Cheese Steak Sandwich...... They have two sizes for it. One is the FILI size which is for those with a less than hearty appetite while the PHILLY size is definitly for someone who is extremely hungry.

For some strange reason, they could not serve us the PHILLY size so we just settled for the FILI size and it is still a sight to behold. The serving is still quite big. (I could just imagine how big the Philly size will be) It's thinly sliced sirloin topped with melted cheese, carmelized onion and bell peppers served on a long toasted bread. They have this salsa type sauce and some fresh jalopeno peppers on the side.
This is another winner ...... the beef is tender, there is lots and lots of that melted cheese and all the other ingredients mixed quite well together for one extraordinary meal. (wait a minute !!! this is not a meal ..... this is a pigout. )
Due to the fact, that the angus burger was already a heavy meal by itself, I almost could not finish the one-half of the Cheese Steak sandwich. (next time, we need more reinforcements)
Just for the sake of trying, we ordered one more dish. It's Buffalo Chicken Wings with Honey Dijon as the Sauce...... What we ordered was the sweet version, but you can also opt for the "Nuclear" version which I assume will be much much spicier.

I find the sauce a bit too sweet for me but the chicken was cooked quite well. (Crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside)
Accompanying the chicken wings is some veggie sticks with this blue cheese sauce (I actually am not sure what it is)
Of course our "Pigout" won't be complete without More Beer.

And even more beer.

Damage was a little steep for both the burgers and the imported beers ......... but for a burger (and beer) lover like me, it was all worth it
This is one of the food places in my Food Trip Wishlist! I wanna taste those beers, too! :)
ReplyDelete@ Jenn ..... this Charlie's Food trip was done last year with the Smiling Bandit. We're actually planning to go back there soon as the Bandit has recommended I try their Fish and Chips as well as their sliders.
