KAO-CHI Restaurant

This particular resto was advertised (a couple of months back) in the newspaper as serving Shanghai Cuisine. I for one had never tasted this region's fare so I can't vouch for its authenticity. Food listed in the menu does seem similar to the usual Cantonese Cuisine that we are so used to.

SHANGHAI BROILER CHICKEN

Nothing really to rave about. It's just broiled chicken with some sweet sauce. The only twist or difference here is that this appetizer dish is served cold.

SAUTEED SHREDDED PORK with SWEET BEAN SAUCE

Pork was a little over cooked so it kinda dried up and the sauce was a tad to sweet.

The addition of the flour wrap (commonly used with Peking Duck) offered a novel way to eat the pork.

BLACK PEPPER BEEF TENDERLOIN

The sauce is seasoned just right (good with a cup of steamed rice) and the beef is fork tender. (Guess what?? they served the dish to us medium rare.)

JINJIANG FRIED NOODLE with SEAFOOD

One of the few times that chinese stir fry noodles are firm to the bite and not soggy. Perhaps it has something to do with actually paying for the noodles instead of always requesting for complimentary birthday noodles.

XIHU BEEF SOUP

At first glance, it does look like your typical egg drop soup. But this one really had a good beefy flavor. And the addition of the coriander further gave it more aroma.

CRAB ROE XIAO LONG PAO

It's just your usual soupy dumpling but very very few servings of crab roe. I think if you were to try this alongside their regular xiao long pao in a blind test, you wouldn't really taste the difference.

  2. Been here twice and on both occasions the place is packed. Enjoyed their lamb dish, 3 cups chicken and white chicken (served cold). They also serve stinky tofu.

  3. @ Gene ..... I forgot to mention about the "packed" part. We arrived at 11:00am (on a sunday) and there were around 2 tables occupied. But by the time it reached 11:30am, the place was filling up quickly. No vacant table by 12:00noon

hmmmmmm gotta try the stinky tofu soon.

  4. The choices of wall paper colors and textures of the cloth used for table covers, the lighting and combination of wood stones mirror and metal makes this restaurant’s interior design very modern and oriental. I admire the creativity and arrangements of the porcelains, vase, curtains and drapes as well as the careful thought given by the owner to have this restaurant designed and present a unique ambiance. The decorative wall lights, 5 bulb pin lights and the artistic wall hanging, the round eclectic center lights fashionably accentuated by thread drapes, carved trimmings of entrance each function room has all shows how well the planning was for the space and how things will come together. The embroidery on the waiter’s uniform, the glass lamps covered in transparent red see through fabric the warm greetings and the courteous service when they bring you tea pot and the gestures when preparing the serving portions for you can make you feel this is a place you will definitely enjoy. Savor your senses on top of the culinary a masterpiece experience. You deserve to see KAO Chi – it’s like being in another place in a different time.
