MA's CHICKEN MAMI HOUSE

After a nights heavy downpour, the result was a chilly morning, and that had me and my parents craving for a bowl of hot noodle soup. (yes, we are all lover of noodles) I told them that there is a branch of Ma's Chicken Mami house that opened recently near timog avenue (we already tried their TriNoma branch) and that we should try it.

Like the TriNoma branch, its basically a very small place with roughly 6 tables (though I think for this branch you can squeeze in 2 more small tables in the middle)

Ma's BINONDO MANI

The chicken broth is quite flavorful, I'm guessing they included the bones of the chicken and had it simmered for a long time so that the broth had a milky appearance. The big piece of sliced pork is tender but a little on the salty side. The small piece of wanton is kinda dry (much like the siumai). the small slices of fish however were nicely cooked. Noodles are somewhat in between firm and soggy.

If you use the sauce intended for the Siopao on the noodles. The result is a taste thats somewhat similar to those being served at MASUKI.

It's good that the noodles here are served piping hot.... So hot that the broth was still boiling when it reached our table.

PORK SIUMAI

Each piece of the siumai (which costs 20 pesos) is much larger than the usual siumai one finds in other chinese inspired eateries. Of course whats the use of its bigger size if all you get is a big piece of dry pork (and do I detect hints of extenders??)

SIOPAO (Steamed Buns)

We ordered two flavors, the Bola-Bola was shared by mom and dad so I did not get to taste it. I got for myself the Honey Cured Pork Buns which I think tasted exactly like Asado (Roast Pork) buns.

BONELESS FRIED CHICKEN

Strips of chicken thats lightly battered and fried that it comes out slightly crispy but still tender on the insides. Accompanying the chicken dish is a lemon sauce (for dipping) which had me a bit concerned at the start because the last time I tasted lemon flavored dipping sauce in another chinese inspired resto, it was overly sweet that one would think one is tasting melted lemon candy. Fortunately for this dish, the more balanced sweetness of the lemon sauce blended quite well with the saltiness of the chicken.

I didn't care for the rice as they just used artificial coloring to make it look like it was Yang Chow Fried Rice.

Ma's Chicken Mami House is located at: # 5 Sgt. Esguerra St., Quezon City

On a personal sidenote: For a chinese inspired noodle house, I'm quite surprised they don't offer hot tea.
